General Grant Application Guidelines
**Please note that at this time, the Foundation is not accepting Letters of Inquiry or soliciting Full Grant Proposals. You may refer to our most current guidelines as a reference only [Download general grant application guidelines]. The Foundation maintains its previous policy to not accept unsolicited funding proposals.**
The Foundation's principal goal is to support initiatives designed to promote tolerance, particularly among the young. Its work is focused on developing young children's understanding of and respect for the differences that exist among themselves, especially those related to culture, ethnicity, gender, race, and socioeconomic status. The Foundation's program builds on research findings demonstrating that gaining self-control and the ability to relate positively to others is developed in early childhood and that family, educators, and child caregivers play significant roles in shaping lifelong attitudes.
The Foundation has adopted the following objectives for its grantmaking:
- Facilitate the further development of promising local educational programs that promote tolerance and respect for diversity in economically disadvantaged communities, particularly those in developing countries.
- Support collaborations among similar or complementary early education programs that promote tolerance, beginning in Europe and the United States, in order to encourage the expansion and replication of their services, build their training and technical assistance capacities, and make effective use of technology for communication purposes.
- Enable proven-effective programs that educate without prejudice to take full advantage of new technologies, especially the Web, for the purposes of training and technical assistance, research and evaluation, marketing and recruitment, leadership development, and communicating information and lessons learned to professional audiences and the public.
In order to achieve maximum leverage from its grants and to take advantage of existing expertise, the Third Millennium Foundation will form alliances with other funding organizations that have similar goals. The Foundation expects to sustain collaborative relationships with its funding partners over many years. By working toward its objectives, over the long term the Foundation hopes to promote understanding and respect for differences among significant numbers of young children and thus further respect for diversity in our multicultural societies.
